ENDODONTICS

Endodontic is a branch of dentistry that concerns dental pulp and surrounding roots of a tooth. It basically treats the soft, living pulp tissue inside the tooth.

WHO ARE ENDODONTISTS?

Endodontists are highly skilled dental specialists, who specialize in diagnosing and treating tooth pain, and perform root canal treatment. They aim to save you from tooth pain by the root canal treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

During an endodontic/root canal treatment the patient is given ‘local anesthesia’ to numb the affected region. A sheet of latex/rubber dam is used to isolate the tooth in an order to keep it dry, clean and isolated during the treatment.

Next, the endodontist will perform opening of the tooth by removing all the dead and decayed portion, gaining access into the pulp chamber. Then some instruments known as endodontic files are used to clean the pulp canals and reshape it. After complete cleaning and shaping is done, the patient’s tooth is filled with a rubber like material called GUTTA PERCHA, which is safe and biocompatible. After few days or week, a permanent crown is used to cap the tooth and restore its chewing functions.
