Tips To Overcome Dental Anxieties During Covid Pandemic

December 28, 2020editorUncategorized

Almost 80% of people are afraid of visiting a dentist for their dental treatment. Dental fear is very evidently seen in people of all age groups. Some of them are afraid of injections, some are afraid of drills, equipment, a few hate being lectured for oral hygiene and quitting tobacco or smoking. Dental anxieties were common even before this Covid Pandemic. But dental patients are badly affected after Covid. Dentists are at risk of highest exposure because of aerosols and close proximity to the mouth that increases the chance of virus transmission. So the dental patients are neglecting their dental treatment. But they have to face bigger consequences afterward. In order to deal with fear and anxieties, you need to educate and make yourself more aware of coronavirus.

Here I Am Suggesting A Few Tips To Overcome Dental Anxieties During Covid Pandemic

1. Educate Yourself

Educating yourself and getting aware of coronavirus is the rule of thumb. You must know the protocols suggested by WHO to protect yourself from Covid 19. Being aware of mode of transmission, signs and symptoms, treatment modalities can not only keep you safe but also decrease the chance of community spread of the disease. If you are well aware of protocols, you can overcome your dental fear in a dental clinic.

2. Protect Yourself With Essential Equipments

Remember that coronavirus has three ways to contaminate I.e mouth , nose and eyes. So you need to cover and protect yourself with essential equipment.

  • Wear face masks to cover your nose and mouth.
  • Wear face shields
  • Wear PPE kits and eye protection goggles
  • Use sanitizers frequently
  • Do not touch your face or surfaces unnecessarily when in clinic
  • Maintain 6 feet distance in waiting area
  • Proper disposal of tissues and masks
  • Don’t sneeze or cough openly

3. Talk To Your Dentist

Talk to your dentist confidently about your dental fears. Be vocal about your medical conditions, if you have any sign and symptoms of Covid. Ask them for help if you need to know more about coronavirus infection. The most important thing is to choose the best and well sterilised clinic for your treatment . Talking to your dentist will help you overcome your anxieties.

4. Consider Sedation Dentistry

Many patients are anxious because they are afraid of pain. Ask your dentist for painless treatment. Ask for anaesthesia and sedation to overcome your dental phobia. Painless dentistry is the best way to cure your dental anxiety and fear.

5. Consider Medication

Before visiting a dentist make sure you have booked an appointment in a well sterilised clinic and also ask your dentist for medication if you are already in pain. You should discuss dental fear and anxieties before fixing an appointment for any kind of dental procedure. You should take prescription and follow that strictly before any kind of dental surgery.

Conclusion

Plan for your dental appointment before visiting a dentist to decrease the chance of exposure to coronavirus. The less time you spend in the clinic , the lower the risk of exposure. Keep yourself more aware and follow all the safety measures , that is going to keep you safe and also help you overcome your fear.
